Summer's over - Perfect weather for a kayak on the Hunter River at Maitland
Now that summer's over and the temperatures have settled down, it's time to get back out in our Kayaks for a paddle on the Hunter River. One of our favourite (and easy) spots is to go in at Lorn Beach. It's a 9.2km paddle up the river to the Bolwarra Train Bridge and back again.
Thank you for watching.

Our final day in Hong Kong meant it was now or never to head up to the Peak. The last 4-5 days had been wet so we had delayed doing this until the last day hoping it would stop raining. We caught the Peak Tram up to the 360 Sky Terrace and even though it was still overcast and sprinkling, the view was amazing. The thing about your Sky Terrace is that you can only go up ONCE. We stayed up for ag...

Day 10 in Hong Kong was another rainy day. We had organised to meet up with Family at the Hong Kong History Museum. Filming is not allowed inside but it was a fascinating insight into the History of Hong Kong. After that, we split into 2 groups. Annette and Abbey went with our Niece Ciara and her twin babies to catch the Ferry back to Mui Wo for a Family Dinner. My sister Lyndall and I went to ...

Today we left Hong Kong for a Day trip to Macau. Macau is both a city and a special administrative region (SAR) of China. With a population of about 680,000 and an area of 32.9 km2, it is the most densely populated region in the world. Macau, often referred to as the "Las Vegas of the East", since the late 20th century has become a major resort city and a top destination for gambling tourism. I...

Day 8 in Hong Kong was another rainy day. So we took the MTR to Central and then caught the Iconic Star Ferry across the Harbour to the Harbour City Shopping Centre. Harbour City is absolutely HUGE, filled with upmarket brands and High-end fashion outlets. After walking around the shopping centre for what seemed an eternity, we grabbed some food at the Food Republic Food Court. There is so much...

Day 6 of our Hong Kong trip was busy. Firstly we caught a tram to get a look at the City above ground. Our Daughter Abbey got off the tram at the right stop but we couldn't push past people to get off in time, so had to carry on to the next stop which was at least 3 blocks further on. We couldn't call her as we didn't have Mobile phone coverage but simply walked the 3 blocks back to meet her. W...

    Today must have been a Sunday or a public holiday, which is why you saw all those women using “cardboard boxes”. These women provide a service to local Hong Kongers, they are “Domestic Helpers”, mostly Indonesian and Filipino they live with local families and get one day off a week. For a months salary HK$5000 the women will everything for the family, cook, clean, dog walk, wash your car, take children to school, look after babies while parents go to work - full time. It’s one reason HK is very affluent, allowing both parents to work full time and pay a small amount for a Domestic Helper. They literally work 12 hours a day, if not more, taking care of the old relatives too!

    • @brynmag
      @brynmag 4 месяца назад

      Thank you the explanation. That makes more sense now. They were getting together on their day off. It seems very foreign to us (the cardboard box thing) but perfectly normal in Hong Kong. Is it like that every weekend and Public Holiday?

      Thanks. I really appreciate someone getting what we are trying to do. Travel Vlogs without all the pretentious bullshit. We are not genetically gifted or super cool but we do love travelling. Our videos are not scripted or planned and we are not trying to demonstrate superior knowledge about the places we visit. We often have no idea how the day will turn out but try to go with the flow as you never know what you will discover. Hoping our videos appeal to the mid to older audience who are also turned off by the usual "Influencers". And yeah, Timelapse is my favourite thing. I try to include timelapse in our travel videos as much as possible, although it drives my wife insane at the time. Haha.

      It doesn't use hotspots, it creates an adhoc wi-Fi connection between your phone and the camera. If you wanted to stream to the internet, that is independent of this. You can possibly do both. The later model GoPro cameras use Bluetooth to make this same connection.

    Quick question , what documents where you asked to present and how thorough were they with the travel insurance? We have allianz insurance which the agent said covers covid 19, cruises, and all our ports .

    • @brynmag
      @brynmag 8 месяцев назад

      We were paranoid about having the requested insurance. We were told we had to have Covid Cover and that without it some of the ports may not let us get off (and we had to have the paperwork to show them). We also had to do a COVID test the night before we boarded (which we passed). When we boarded I can't remember if they even asked for proof of our insurance. They might have but I've forgotten now. They asked if we'd done the COVID test, to which we said YES, but they didn't need us to show the photos of the test. After that, nobody asked about the test or insurance again. We felt better having it because if we had tested positive we would not have been able to board and could have claimed for cancellation. We got cover through Cover-More because they were the recommended ones and the only company that seemed to provide COVID coverage at the time. It was expensive though. That has probably all changed now. I don't think you need to test anymore. I'm also not sure if you still need to have travel insurance to get on board, although I highly recommend it. Personally, I always get travel insurance for any trips outside of Australia. Things can and do go wrong. Lost bags, missed flights, medical emergencies, and accidents. I always believe it's better to be safe than sorry.

    Thanks still works for GoPro8...just curious how well a 10 year old battery will work 😮

      It's surprising they still work. We have sold old units of these and a few have failed but most still work.

    It looks pretty windy, what time of the day was it? The sea is often calmer earlier in the day.

      Pretty much all day from 10am to 4.00pmish. They warned that the current would be strong before we even got off the ship.

    Looks like some lovely places there my friend, really had fun "traveling with you" - so many scenic views there. (it looks like you use GoPro, is it?? Thanks for a nice video my friend. Best regards, Thomas

      Hi Thomas Thank you. Yes, I still use GoPro cameras for most of my videos. This was the GoPro HERO9 (even though I have a HERO11). They are not perfect by any means but they are easy to use while travelling. Thanks for watching. Bryn

    I observed a praying mantis up close in my yard do the same thing! What interesting behavior. I’m so glad that you were able to capture it on video. Excellent!

      They are funny to watch. I like doing Macro video but don't get a chance to do it as much as I would like.

      People used to recognize us from our GoPro videos a lot but not so much from our travel vlogs. We have 1 last video to finish from the next day at Noumea. Have you watched the others from this cruise? You might see yourself somewhere in one of them.
